Green energy Sikkim
Solar Power Plant India, Sikkim

As we all know, recently Indian army is taking steps towards greener energy. It commissioned “Go Green” initiative in 2019; as a part of this initiative, military is collaborating with renowned colleges of India to study and research on the ways of implementing and transforming from non- renewable to renewable sources of energy for powering the army buildings, activities across the country.

On April 30th, 2021; Indian army took it’s first step by launching green solar power plant in northern part of Sikkim to power the army buildings and troops. The power plant is of 56KVA of capacity at an altitude of 16,000ft. This particular project is collaboration of Indian military and IIT, Mumbai.

Similar to Sikkim solar power plant, army also set up solar power plant in Jalandhar Cantonment with capacity of 1 MV in order to power entire military hospital building. This plant is going to work on 3,176 solar panels. Both the plants use vanadium-based battery technology.

These step may not be ground breaking but significant change towards India’s greener future technology.
